Shōgun won big at the Screen Actor’s Guild Awards on Sunday night, taking home four major honors.
The show, which streamed on FX and Hulu, won two ensemble awards: “Outstanding Performance by an Ensemble in a Drama Series” and
“Outstanding Action Performance by a Stunt Ensemble in a Television Series.”
Hiroyuki Sanada accepted the award for Outstanding Performance by a Male Actor in a Drama Series. Sanada played Lord Yoshii Toranaga in the series.
In his acceptance speech, Sanada thanked everyone he had worked with throughout his career.
“I put everything, every single experience in my life, into Shōgun, then Shōgun brought me here,” Sanada continued, growing emotional. “So I’d like to thank all my coworkers in my life, and I would also like to thank my team for always supporting me. This is for you. Thank you so much.”
Anna Sawai won Outstanding Performance by a Female Actor in a Drama Series for her role as Mariko. She tearfully accepted the award.
“Thank you so much. I’m very happy but I’m also kind of sad because this is probably the last time I’m able to celebrate the work with you guys,” she said.
