Less than 30% of ICE immigration detainees are criminals

Commercials featuring Homeland Security chief Kristi Noem show her bragging about how the Trump administration is pulling rapists and murderers off the streets.

The latest figures from her department confirm that fewer than 30% have been convicted of crimes and 47% held by ICE have no criminal records at all, reports CBS News.

Immigration authorities have said no one in the country illegally will be safe from deportation.

News Nation puts the number currently being held by ICE at more than 41,000. Most stay an average of 90 days, but others have been in custody for more than three months.

The fact checking site Truth or Fake confirmed the numbers cited by CBS are accurate saying the figures have been “supported by multiple credible sources.”

It goes on to say that a “significant portion of detainees” lack serious criminal records.
