Man sentenced in beating of neighbor he heard speaking Tagalog

A Clark County judge sentenced a Las Vegas man Monday in the hate crime beating of his 75-year-old Filipino American neighbor.

Christian Lentz received a sentenced of 90 days in jail plus probation that if violated could subject Lentz to 12-30 years in prison, the Las Vegas Review Journal reported.

“To steal a line from another organization, there is no place for hate here in Nevada, specifically in Clark County,” said Schwartz. “And there is no way that anyone can erase the pain or the suffering that Mr. (Amadeo) Quindara or his family suffered.”

KTNV reports the victim’s family watched Lentz being handcuffed in front of them and hauled off to jail. It was the first time they came face to face to the man that beat their father.

Prosecutors says Lentz threatened Quindara when he heard him speaking Tagalog in his own garage. The suspect would later return to carry out his attack while screaming “die, die, die.”

“It was good to see Christian Lentz in handcuffs and go to jail. I think visually that helped us — helped me — sort of move on from this,” Phil Quindara said.

Lentz had previously pleaded guilty but mentally ill. 3News reported Lentz reportedly felt people were conspiring against him.

The judge also ordered him to pay the family $7,000 in restitution and undergo three years of mental health treatment.

(Correction: An earlier version of this story incorrectly stated the age of Lentz. We regret the error)

  1. The wording of the first sentence is off. Amadeo Quindara, the victim, was 75 when he was attacked in 2023. Christian Lentz, who received the short jail sentence, is much younger.
