Awards season started off right for KPop Demon Hunters at the Critics’ Choice Awards on Sunday night.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, the film won two awards at the ceremony: Best Song and Best Animated Feature.
KPop Demon Hunters is an animated film that follows girl group Huntr/x (whose members are Rumi, Mira, and Zoey) as they balance their pop music career with demon slaying.
The film features several original KPop songs. According to Billboard Philippines, “Golden,” won the Critics’ Choice Award for Best Song.
“When writing this song, I found myself living vicariously through my character Rumi. Her life and journey in the movie felt deeply familiar to me,” EJAE, who voices Rumi, said during the film’s acceptance speech, per The Hollywood Reporter. “The song needed to be an expression of hope to convince herself that she could write and reach for her dreams. In many ways, it did the same for me, but most importantly for it to be giving hope so many people around the world is truly the greatest honor.”
The cast and crew spoke with several reporters at the ceremony but remained tight-lipped about a potential sequel. E! News asked the team about a potential sequel.
“We’re still really enjoying this moment,” Maggie Kang, the co-creator and director of KPop Demon Hunters told E! News.
Registration is closed for Common Ground: Building Together conference and gala award banquet in San Francisco on January 24. A shoutout to our planning committee: Jane Chin, Frank Mah, Jeannie Young, Akemi Tamanaha, Nathan Soohoo, Mark Young, Dave Liu, and Yiming Fu.
