Door‑to‑Door sweep sparks fear, profiling charges in Minneapolis

Reports have surfaced of ICE agents going door to door in search of potential deportees in Minneapolis.

According to Fox9, agents approached the home of St. Paul resident Kong Vang and knocked on his door.

“I was afraid they were going to take me away. Take my mom away. Just rush our house and do whatever it is they are trained to do with legal citizens who haven’t done anything wrong,” said Vang.

Vang’s parents, who he lives with along with his sister and son, came to the U.S. from Laos in the 70’s. All are American citizens.

The Vice President of the St Paul City Council, Hwa Jong Kim, also says she’s received firsthand accounts of ICE agents knocking on doors. She is heard in an Instagram video posted by Stop Asian Hate.

“Before 9:30 this morning, ICE already kidnapped someone off the streets of my ward.” she said.

She also went on to describe some of the conversations residents had with these agents. Kim says ICE agents are asking people to identify photos. When the response is no, they ask if they know any of their Hmong neighbors. That’s followed by inquiries about their Asian neighbors.

“It’s always been indiscriminate racial profiling,” Kim went on to say. “This going door to door to random homes is a very clear escalation.”

Times Now News reports Homeland Security has acknowledged its door-to-door operation.

“DHS is on the ground in Minneapolis going door to door at suspected fraud sites,” it wrote on X. Federal authorities allege widespread fraud at day care centers run by Somali immigrants.

However, the 19th reports the state’s own investigation has found little evidence of fraud.
